Beautiful building and closter, recently renovated dorms with dehumidifiers. The check in process is indeed long but it is worth spending the night.

It’s a beautiful building with modern accommodations for pilgrims, but I didn’t appreciate the attitude of the monk or the workers I interacted with. They weren’t welcoming and gave the impression that they are doing pilgrims a massive favour, and that any question is an inconvenience. They even have a sign on one of the stovetops that says, “Broken by pilgrims”—are they trying to make every pilgrim who stays there feel bad for something another pilgrim did in the past? I found this to be petty and immature—they could have simply written, “Out of order” on the stovetop. // Also, they did not make it clear which door should be used to exit the monastery, so on the occasions when I tried to leave to get food or explore the town, I was always given attitude by the attendants for using the “wrong” door. // Furthermore, their check-in process is horrendous. It takes nearly 45 minutes to check in 6 pilgrims at a time. If you’re the 20th pilgrim in line, you’ll have to wait for more than two hours. And if you’re in the first group to be let in, you can only exit and renter the monastery when the monk is done checking a group of pilgrims in; so if you get groceries and want to come back to the monastery, you could be waiting for up to 45 minutes to be let in again. // Notably, the English-speaking monk who checked us in was facetious and spoke in a condescending manner. He made distasteful comments, too. When explaining the different sections of the monastery, for example, he said at one point, “The monks live on the top floor. They each have a window and a machine gun.” // Perhaps most nonsensical of all is that their kitchen—which is only for pilgrims—is not open in the morning. So people who are about to embark on a 25-km walk have no place to eat or make a coffee. Considering all pilgrim-oriented albergues have kitchens—or at least food available for purchase—accessible in the morning, this is unfathomable. // So I’d say the monastery is nice to visit, but if you can afford to stay somewhere else in town, please do so. The hypocrisy of working for and servicing God yet treating others (pilgrims!) as if they are inferior left a sour taste in my mouth.

Vêpres a 19h30

I love this albergue so much that I stayed twice, once on my way to Santiago and again on my way back! It's a very special place to stay, and I appreciated being able to visit the monastery when it was closed, a unique experience. It's especially nice in Galicia to have a kitchen that actually has equipment in it, for a change! The garden is beautiful, as is the cloister and Laurence is great although I don't think everyone appreciates his British humour!!

A recomendar
