I was literally staying alone at the hostel, as André returned to his home that night and left the key with me. Even so, I was warmly welcomed! He showed me everything I needed to see and know, and gave me time to shower and settle into my room until dinner time, when he picked me up in his car and took me to his restaurant, where I enjoyed a delicious pilgrim's menu with sparkling wine to celebrate my birthday. I was very cold and asked him to turn up the heat, which he promptly did. As a woman walking alone, I felt very safe in André's presence and during my stay.
