Becky59 Older building, backpacks stored outside in outdoor shed reached by steep stairs. 4 of the 7 beds are behind curtains where others walk through. Simple dinner of spaghetti; owner ate with us and monopolized the conversation. However the shower on the 3rd floor was new and excellent. |

anamanyas My friend and I arrived the 5th of July 2025 to such a wonderful gîte! André was an amazing host who welcomed us with open arms and we felt as if we were at our grandpa's home. He really cared that we felt comfortable because he took the time to give us a refreshing glass of water and to show us around the gîte. He even allowed us to choose our bedroom! Visitors in this gîte shouldn't forget that the building is a historical site and that's the REAL value of it. It belonged to a worker dedicated to collect the money from people who paid a tax for crossing the bridge. Some parts of the building are renovated, for example the bathroom at the 2nd floor. The views from the terrace to the river Allier are great, and if you happen to visit on a weekend, you might join the bungee jumping activity at the Eiffel bridge. The rooms are clean and the beds have courtains so you can keep your privacy if needed. André offers pasta with bolognese sauce for dinner. Even though this might seem as a simple thing, in days to come you will be grateful for having skipped lentils or alligot just for once. He is also very careful about not wasting food, a very good value that we appreciated. André might be an old school man, but make no mistake, you can learn many things from him about the Camino and its magic. He has no space for bullshitting or for the small talk. If you visit him, you'll get a real LOCAL experience from a very genuine person. We forgot to order our picnic at the gîte for the next day and André was kind enough to find a solution for us, we could order a meal in a Foodtruck on the way thanks to him. The following day we were feeling a bit scared because everyone said that there was a very steep part coming in the next stage of the camino, but André led us outside that morning and took a photo of us in front of the Eiffel tower. Then he said: "You are going to eat the Camino!!!" That sentence stayed with us for our whole trip and we kept reminding it every time we found a difficult path. In the end, we ATE the Camino!! |
