French vs. Northern Route in June/July

My children, US college students ages 18 and 20, are planning to walk the Camino starting in early June and trying to decide between the Northern and French routes. They want to experience beautiful scenery, a challenging route, but also meet other pilgrims and have a social experience. If they walk the Northern route, will there be many other pilgrams? Enough to meet people along the way? For first time pilgrams, is it difficult to find lodging and services. I have walked the French way many years ago. I know that there would be services and other pilgrams but also very crowded that time of year. Looking for recommendations for the best route that time of year.

Hello,

How nice it is that you have succeeded in transmitting the interest in the Camino to your children. The French and the North Way are both really attractive. The Way is more than hiking -as you say-, and perhaps they could experience more its spirit along the French Way. In my opinión, the second one is tougher than the first one, . Besides, in June, the French is not particularly crowded, although it's difficult to foresee. On the other hand, it is also important to lodge in accurate shelters. By the way, I spend two weeks a year as an hopitalero in the shelter run by the Maltese Order. If they are interested in getting some information about different shelters to stay at, I will send you my email.
