Think before we walk.

Sorry for this I posted this on another forrum recently I welcome a response but I am getting angry so here goes,
Economic needs are forcing bad decisions to be made.
For a few weeks now I have been reading posts of people starting there walk and getting lots of "likes" from others.
Recently in a post someone said " The drive to the airport might be as dangerous to you, as walking three weeks in of the Camino " poor Galicia and Spain has no hope with views like this.

I know we all want things to go back to our memories of the past Caminos, but try to think of others that is that what the spirit of the Camino is about.?
"Think of others when making your decision to walk it will still be there in months and years to come even if we are not".
To me the Camino is about friendship caring, sharing and helping fellow humans in body and spirit.
The virus you could be carrying could damage the health of thousands of your fellow humans.
"Selfishness is no excuse for ignorance

Hi Michael!! As spaniard i trust our goverment knows what are the anti covid measures we should take so i will obey it as a good citizen. I live the camino as a way of live not just a meaninful vacations. Many people lives the camino in a business way like micro family business so they depend on us to feed their families. If we are not on the camino now maybe the camino will not be on you when you wish to walk it so we will try to do our best thinking before and in the meanwhile. I will try to preserve the camino walking on it in the safest way.

Thank you very much for your interest!!
Buen camino!! :)

Berto.

As a good Irish pilgrim I have walked the Camino every year since 2013, What I was saying was that pilgrims with a high rate in both death and cases  like the u. k. and usa are coming to your beautiful country and maybe spreading the virus. I advised for them to contimplate giving it a short break.

They did not agree and are on there way it is not an  imperitive for these veterans of the Camino to walk right away.

I know your country needs the tourist dollar right now but people's lives are more important.

You are right! Maybe some infected pilgrims are coming to my beautiful country. What should we do? Stop them without a legal reason? How much time we should wait until let them come in? Spain, UK and USA are full of SARS viruses maybe this virus is everywhere. Have you traveled? Will you? Are you totally safe? How much time should you wait to travel? Do you know the right answer?. In my opinion this is not only about the camino but about some difficult personal choices to make. I have not the truth and i expect that my (and your) government knows what are the less bad choice.
Honestly i really appreciate your interest!! Thank you very much!!

I will not travel this year I have canceled my May Camino trip and promised albergues I booked in may I will return next year.

While I understand the Spanish government's and other government's need to get tourism going again I caution not to rush back to "normality"? until we all, have virus under our control, 70 % of the cases in Ireland lately involve foreign travel People think its all over Think before we walk again.

The media are leading the cheer leaders as if nothing happened it feels like pure propaganda and euphorbia .

One major point is holiday insurance which will not cover covid.

Buen Camino 2021

Hi Michael.
People from the US are not going to Spain or any European country due to the fact that we are NOT allowed in at the moment. The borders remain closed for us and we don't even know if they will reopen this year.  Let's learn to live with it because it's not going away anytime soon or ever.
Hoping 2021 is better for all of us!

Hi michael, next year 2021 Holy year, called also Xacobeo the Camino will be great !!!

I see your point. The Camino spirit  is based on friendship and solidarity in the midst of people sharing a same goal. And in some way, it should be projected into everyone's life.

@berto_kairos I understand both points and I believe there is a way to do the Camino safely. I am Italian living in Mexico right now. And I was thinking to go back to Europe and do the Camino in September. What about doing 14 days self-quarantine in a safe place in Barcelona, before starting the Camino? or even better is there a possibility to take a COVID test once I arrive in Spain? This way I would know that everybody around me would be safe? Thanks

Isabella, I think it is too early to foresee if a quarantine will be required next September; we have to keep an eye on the Authorities warnings.  And once we are in the Camino, we have to keep paying  attention to social distancing, wear mask when we meet anyone and disinfecting hands.  If we always practice these three rules in our ordinary lives, the situation would go for better, as it is said.
