The guidebook of the Way of Saint James

The guidebook El Camí de Sant Jaume des de Montserrat i des de Roncesvalles (The Way of Saint James from Montserrat and Roncesvalles), written in Catalan and published by Cossetània Editions, has been elaborated with the intention of being a useful and practical tool for all those pilgrims and travellers who want to make the Way of Saint James on foot, either through the well-known and usually taken French Way or through the longer and solitary Catalan Way. Lectio Editions has translated this guidebook into Spanish and has published it under the title El Camino de Santiago desde Montserrat y desde Roncesvalles. The general contents are the following:

. An introduction with different chapters dealing with the history of the pilgrimage, the present Ways, the Catalan Ways, the lodgings, the material and the physical training, as well as several advices which can be useful along the journey.
. The Catalan Way, from Montserrat to Logroño, distributed in 15 stages.
. The French Way, from Roncesvalles to Santiago, distributed in 28 stages.
. The stage from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles.
. The three stages from Santiago to Finisterre Cape.

You can see the map of the stages detailed in the guidebook.

In addition, each one of the 47 stages dealt includes:

  . Summary of the stage.
  . Maps at different levels.
. Distances between towns and villages.
. Services and lodgings available in each town and village.
. Characteristic of the lodgings and night shelters.
. Summary of the most relevant cultural characteristics.
  . Description of the itinerary.

In March 2007 the guide has been translated into German and has been published in Germany by Hampp Verlag, a printing house from Stuttgart, under the title Der Jakobsweg von Montserrat und von Saint Jean Pied de Port. You can see the cover of this edition.
